HOW THE SOAPS ARE MADE: First the coconut, olive and palm oils are measured out very precisely and gently warmed in a large steel vat. Next, goats milk and an alkaline solution are added and the mixture is stirred briskly as the ‘saponification’ process works. The soap remains at room temperature throughout, which is why it is known as the ‘cold-process’ method of soap making. When the soap is almost ready, extra skin-nourishing oils, such as avocado or calendula oil is added to the vat. Then botanicals, essential oils or fragrance oils are added last of all. The soap is then poured into wooden frames, insulated for 24 hours, then hand-cut into 95g bars, and racked for 30 days. After that the soaps are individually wrapped, first in a layer of acid-free tissue paper, then hand-sewn inside fine cotton printed fabric.
